Will San Francisco Torch its Olympic Moment?
Les Routledge – Olympic Torch Run – Rural people need to stand up for each other, even if the rural people in question are in Tibet. I wonder if the anti-globalization activists will get mobilized to overcome efforts to neuter efforts to protest China’s recent actions in Tibet?
In my mind, the Olympic Torch should be extinguished before it has a chance to reach China. Through its recent actions, the country demonstrates that it does not subscribe to the Olympic ideas and does not merit the privilege of hosting a torch run.
Chinese leaders may be able to stifle protest in Tibet — but Mayor Gavin Newsom can’t do it in San Francisco.

The games are getting interesting in San Francisco, as the majority of the city’s Board of Supervisors on Tuesday overrode Mayor Gavin Newsom’s desire for a drama-free Olympic torch run. [more...]
